Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 8146

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Love the poor and sit with them; love the Arabs with all your heart; and let what you know of your own heart (its shortcomings) hold you back from (finding fault with) people."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, provided that Umar al-Riyahi heard from Hajjaj al-Aswad.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak because it is munqati'.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There are about 76 years between the deaths of 'Umar al-Riyahi and al-Hajjaj al-Aswad (who is Ibn Abi Ziyad), so it is unlikely that 'Umar al-Riyahi heard it from him; al-Hakim's doubt about his hearing from him is well placed.
Important point: Moreover, the text of the hadith contains something objectionable (nakarah), and the light of prophethood is not upon it. We found no one other than the author who recorded it.
