It is narrated from Sayyiduna Habib bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) invited a Bedouin to take retaliation (qisas) from his own person for a scratch that the Bedouin had received from him (peace and blessings be upon him) unintentionally. Then Jibril (peace be upon him) came and said: O Muhammad! Allah did not send you as a tyrant or an arrogant one. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called the Bedouin and said: "Take retaliation from me." The Bedouin said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! I have forgiven you, and I would never do that, even if you were to take my life. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for good for him.
Imam al-Hakim says: Ahmad bin Ubayd is alone in narrating it from Muhammad bin Mus'ab, and Muhammad bin Mus'ab is trustworthy (thiqah).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is weak. Technical note / Defect ('illah): 1. Ahmad bin 'Ubayd bin Nasih: al-Dhahabi said in "al-Mizan": he narrated from Muhammad bin Mus'ab al-Awza'i's admonition to al-Mansur, and it contains munkar material. We say: this hadith of ours is part of it. 2. Muhammad bin Mus'ab al-Qarqasani: he too is weak. Al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis" because of these two. 3. Ziyad bin Jariyah: al-Nasa'i declared him thiqah, while Abu Hatim declared him majhul. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (7024) and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (35/213-216) through the route of Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim, with this chain, at length as part of a story. Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym likewise recorded it at length in "al-Hilyah" (6/137) through the route of Ahmad bin Yazid, from Muhammad al-Qarqasani. (5344). Reference / Source: On the topic of retaliation (qisas), see the hadith of Usayd bin Hudayr that has passed at no. (5344).
