أَشْقَى الِأَشْقِيَاءِ مَنِ اجْتَمَعَ عَلَيْهِ فَقْرُ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ

أخبرني عبد الله بن الحسين القاضي، حدثنا الحارث بن أبي أسامة، حدثنا أبو النَّضر، حدثنا حَرِيز بن عثمان، حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مَيْسرة، عن جُبير بن نُفَير، عن بِشر (1) بن جَحَّاش القرشي قال: إنَّ رسولَ الله ﷺ بَزَقَ في كفِّه، ثم وضع عليها إصبَعَه، ثم قال: "يقولُ الله ﵎: يا ابن آدم، تُعجِزُني وقد خلقتُك من مثل هذا، حتى إذا سوَّيتُك وَعَدَلتُك، مشيتَ وجَمَعتَ ومَنَعَتَ، حتى إذا بَلَغَتِ التَّراقيَ قلتَ: أتصدَّقُ، وأنَّى أوَانُ الصَّدقة" (2).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bishr bin Jahhash al-Qurashi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) spat into his palm, then placed his finger on it and said: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'O son of Adam, can you render Me incapable when I created you from something like this? Then, when I fashioned you and made you well-proportioned, you walked (upon the earth) proudly, you amassed wealth and withheld (from fulfilling rights), until, when (the soul) reached the throat, you began to say: Now I will give charity. But where is the time for charity now?'"
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) كذا في النسخ الخطية بالشين المعجمة، وقد سلف برقم (3897) بالسين المهملة، وكلاهما قيل في اسمه.
Clarification: In the manuscripts this name is written thus with a dotted shin, whereas earlier at number (3897) it passed with an undotted sin; both forms have been given for his name.
(2) إسناده حسن من أجل عبد الرحمن بن ميسرة.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of Abd al-Rahman bin Maysarah.
وأخرجه أحمد 29 / (17842) عن أبي النضر هاشم بن القاسم بهذا الإسناد. وانظر (3897).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (29/ 17842) recorded it from Abu al-Nadr Hashim bin al-Qasim, with this same chain. See also number (3897).
