Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi", and this chain can bear being graded hasan (muhtamal lil-tahsin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 1. 'Amr bin Jariyah: two narrators narrated from him and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat"; also al-Tirmidhi graded this hadith of his hasan. 2. Abu Umayyah al-Sha'bani: a group narrated from him, Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", and al-Dhahabi declared him trustworthy in "al-Kashif".
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (4341), al-Tirmidhi (3058) and Ibn Hibban (385) recorded it via Abdullah bin al-Mubarak; and Ibn Majah (4014) via Sadaqah bin Khalid; both of them narrate it from 'Utbah bin Abi Hakim, with this same chain.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a narration from Abdullah bin 'Amr in Ahmad (11/ 1987) and Abu Dawud (4343) with a sahih chain.
Details of the narration: In it is: "When you see people whose covenants have become corrupted and whose trusts have become light (no longer honoured), and they have become like this", and he interlaced his fingers. The narrator said: I stood up towards him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: May Allah make me your ransom, what should I do at that time? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep to your house, control your tongue, take what you recognise (as right) and leave what you reject, and attend to your own affairs and leave aside the affairs of the common people."
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: A similar narration is found from Abu Hurayrah in Ibn Hibban (5950 and 5951).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: His (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, ahead of you are days of patience" has a supporting report from the hadith of 'Utbah bin Ghazwan, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, ahead of you are days of patience; whoever holds fast in those days to what you are upon today will have the reward of fifty of you." They said: O Prophet of Allah, (fifty) of them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather of you."
Reference / Source: Muhammad bin Nasr recorded it in "al-Sunnah" (32), and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (17/ 289) and "al-Awsat" (3121).
Grading: All its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but it is "munqati'" (broken).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And (a supporting report) from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah in Abu Ishaq al-Muzakki's "al-Muzakkiyyat" (88), and through his route al-Shajari narrated it in "al-Amali" (2/ 154 and 189). Its wording is: "Indeed, after me there will be days of patience; the reward of the one who holds fast in them to the like of what you are upon will be like the reward of fifty doers (of good)."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators are thiqah except the shaykh of "al-Muzakki"; although several imams narrated from him, we have not found anyone declaring him trustworthy.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And (a supporting report) from the hadith of Anas in Abu al-Shaykh's "Amthal al-Hadith" (233), and from him Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (8/ 49). In it are the words: "The one who stands firm on that day upon the Book and the Sunnah will have the reward of fifty siddiqs (truthful ones)." They said: O Messenger of Allah, of us or of them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, of you."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All its narrators are thiqah except Aslam bin Abd al-Malik; a group narrated from him, but no one is reported to have declared him trustworthy.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And (a supporting report) from Abdullah bin Mas'ud in al-Bazzar (1776) and al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (10394).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In its chain is Sahl bin 'Amir al-Bajali, whom Abu Hatim al-Razi accused (of lying). In al-Tabarani this name has been distorted into "Ibn 'Uthman". Al-Bazzar said: We do not know it to be narrated from Abdullah (bin Mas'ud) except through this route.
