It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah will say: 'O Adam!' He will say: 'Here I am, ready to serve You, and all good is in Your hands.' Allah will say: 'Send forth the contingent of the Fire.'" Then the narrator mentioned the hadith in brief, without mentioning the revelation of the verses and so on.
Imam Bukhari narrated it through the chain of Umar bin Hafs from his father from al-A'mash, and Imam Muslim through the chain of Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah from Waki'.
