حدثنا أحمد بن كامل القاضي، حدثنا محمد بن سعد العَوْفي، حدثنا رَوْح بن عُبَادة، حدثنا شُعبة، قال: سمعتُ عِيَاضًا أبا خالد يقول: رأيتُ رجلينِ (2) يختصمانِ عند مَعقِل بن يسار، فقال مَعقِلٌ: سمعتُ رسولَ الله ﷺ يقول: "مَن حَلَفَ على يمينٍ ليَقطَعَ بها مالَ رجلٍ، لقي الله تعالى وهو عليه غضبانُ (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه بهذا الإسناد.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever swears a (false) oath in order to seize the wealth of another, he will meet Allah while Allah is intensely angry with him."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it with this chain.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts "rajulan" is written here, which is an error.
(3) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد محتمل للتحسين، عياض أبو خالد - وهو البجلي - تابعي، وقد تفرّد بالرواية عنه شعبة، لذلك قال ابن المديني: مجهول، بينما ذكره ابن حبان في "ثقاته" لأنه لم يجد فيه جرحًا، وقد توبع كما سيأتي.
Grading: The hadith is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain may possibly be graded "hasan". Iyad Abu Khalid (al-Bajali) is a Successor (tabi'i), and Imam Shu'bah is alone in narrating from him. For this reason Imam Ibn al-Madini declared him "majhul", while Imam Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book "al-Thiqat" because he found no criticism of him.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: He has also been corroborated, as will be mentioned below.
وأخرجه أحمد 33/ (20292) و (20295)، والنسائي (5976) من طرق عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد. وذكر أحمد فيه قصة.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad (33/ 20292 and 20295) and Imam al-Nasa'i (5976) by various routes of Shu'bah with this same chain. Imam Ahmad also mentioned a story in this narration.
وأخرجه أبو داود الطيالسي (975) من طريق معاوية بن قرة، عن معقل بن يسار. وسنده جيّد.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi (975) narrated it by the route of Mu'awiyah bin Qurrah from Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him).
Grading: Its chain is "jayyid" (good).
