Abdullah bin Tha'labah narrates that he came to Abd al-Rahman bin Ka'b bin Malik, who was wrapped in a threadbare lower garment and a worn single-layer cloth; he was blind and was being led. He said: I greeted him, and he said: Who is this? I said: Abdullah bin Tha'labah. He said: The brother of Banu Harithah? I said: Yes. He said: And the in-law of Juhaynah? I said: Yes. He asked: Have you heard your father narrate a hadith that he narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: I do not know. He asked: Did you hear your father say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever seizes the wealth of a Muslim man by means of a false oath, a black spot will appear in his heart which nothing will change until the Day of Resurrection"? I said: No.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it with this wording.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It is hasan on account of Abdullah bin Tha'labah (who is Abdullah bin Abi Umamah bin Tha'labah, attributed to his grandfather); also, Muhammad bin Sinan al-Qazzaz has some weakness in his memory, but he has been corroborated.
Note / Clarification: The Companion of this hadith is Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him); al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar writes in "al-Isabah" that according to most his name is Iyas, while Imam Ahmad stated with certainty that his name is Abdullah, and some also said Tha'labah bin Suhayl. Ibn Abd al-Barr says that no name other than "Iyas" is correct; he was an Ansari and an ally of Banu Harithah.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani (801) and Abu Nu'aym (1388) narrated it by the route of Ahmad bin Asim al-Abbadani, and Abu Ahmad al-Hakim in "al-Asami wa al-Kuna" (2/ 12) by the route of Muhammad bin Bashshar, with the chain of Abdullah bin Humran.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): These narrations state explicitly that Abd al-Rahman bin Ka'b heard it from Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him), the father of Abdullah bin Tha'labah.
Reference / Source: Al-Harith bin Abi Usamah (Bughyat al-Bahith: 457) narrated it from Muhammad bin Umar al-Waqidi, and Ibn Qani' in "Mu'jam al-Sahabah" (1/ 121), al-Tabarani (1383) and Abu Nu'aym (1387) by the route of Khalid bin al-Harith, via Abd al-Hamid bin Ja'far.

Note / Clarification: It is like this (in wording) in the manuscripts; however, the wording of the "two Sahihs" (al-Bukhari and Muslim) is like the wording of the next hadith, not like the wording of the hadith under discussion.
