It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a windstorm overtook the people on the road to Makkah while Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was performing Hajj. When the wind grew fierce, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked those around him: What is the wind? No one gave him an answer. Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When I learned of this, I urged my mount on until I reached him and said: O Commander of the Believers! I have been told that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The wind is from the mercy (rawh) of Allah Almighty; it sometimes brings mercy and sometimes punishment. So do not revile it; rather, ask Allah for its good and seek refuge with Allah from its evil."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts there is a corruption of the word here, and this name has been recorded by mistake as "Sharik".
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad (7413, 9299, 9629), Ibn Majah (3727), al-Nasa'i (10702) and Ibn Hibban (1007, 5732), by various routes from Imam al-Awza'i, with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Imam Ahmad (7631) and Abu Dawud (5097) narrated it by way of Ma'mar bin Rashid, Imam Ahmad (10714) by way of Yunus bin Yazid, and al-Nasa'i (10710) by way of Ziyad bin Sa'd; all three narrate it from Imam al-Zuhri. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Unlike these mentioned students of al-Zuhri, Salim bin 'Ajlan al-Aftas put the name 'Amr bin Sulaym al-Zuraqi in the narration in place of Thabit al-Zuraqi; al-Nasa'i (10700) narrated it, but its chain contains 'Umar bin Salim al-Aftas, who is majhul (unknown). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Likewise, 'Uqayl bin Khalid also contradicted the other students and narrated it via al-Zuhri, Sa'id bin al-Musayyab and then Abu Hurayrah; al-Nasa'i (10699) recorded it, but its chain contains Talq bin al-Samh, whom Imam Abu Hatim declared majhul (unknown). (3112). Grading: Imam al-Daraqutni says in "al-'Ilal" (1564) that the correct position is that it is the narration of Imam al-Zuhri via Thabit bin Qays al-Zuraqi from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Reference / Source: In this connection, see also the previous hadith of Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), number (3112).
