[التعليق - من تلخيص الذهبي] ترقيم العلميه 7755 - صحيح
Abu Jabirah bin al-Dahhak (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the verse "And do not call one another by (offensive) nicknames" [Surah al-Hujurat: 11] was revealed concerning our tribe, Banu Salimah. He said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came (to Madinah), every one of us had two or three names. When a man was called by one of his names, people would say: Stop! He dislikes this name and becomes angry at it. Then this verse was revealed: "Do not call one another by offensive nicknames."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
