حدثنا أبو عبد الله الشَّيباني، حدثنا يحيى بن محمد الذُّهلي، حدثنا مُسدَّد، حدثنا خالد بن الحارث، حدثنا شُعبة، عن قَتَادة عن أبي مِجْلَز، قال: رأى حذيفةُ إنسانًا قاعدًا وَسَطَ حَلْقة، قال: لعنَ رسولُ الله ﷺ مَن قَعَدَ وَسَطَ حَلْقة (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Abu Mijlaz that Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a man sitting in the middle of a circle and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed the one who sits right in the middle of a circle.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(2) إسناده ضعيف لانقطاعه، أبو مجلز - واسمه لاحق بن حميد - لم يدرك حذيفة كما قال شعبة عقب الحديث في رواية أحمد (23376).
Grading: Its chain is weak because it is munqati' (broken).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Mijlaz (whose name is Lahiq bin Humayd) did not live in the time of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), as Imam Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj stated explicitly immediately after this hadith in Imam Ahmad's narration (23376).
وأخرجه أحمد 38 (23263) و (23376) و (23406)، والترمذي (2753) من طرق عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد. وقال الترمذي: حسن صحيح.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in 38/ (23263, 23376, 23406) and Imam al-Tirmidhi in (2753) by various routes from Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj, with this same chain.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi declared it "hasan sahih".
وأخرجه أبو داود (4826) من طريق أبان بن يزيد العطار، عن قتادة به.
Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud (4826) narrated it by way of Aban bin Yazid al-'Attar from Qatadah, with this same chain.
