It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not walk in front of me or directly behind me, for this is the place of the angels." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I used to come running to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as swiftly as a flying spark.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
(3586). Technical note / Defect ('illah): All its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy); however, the mention of the prohibition of walking in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is "shadh" (anomalous), as was pointed out under hadith number (3586). Reference / Source: Al-Mahamili narrated it in (121 - the narration of Ibn Mahdi), and through his route al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in "Tarikh Baghdad" 6/ 381, through the chain of Abu al-Ash'ath Ahmad bin al-Miqdam al-'Ijli from Khalid bin al-Harith. Note / Clarification: Al-Khatib al-Baghdadi added: "It is gharib as a narration of Shu'bah from al-Aswad; to my knowledge no one narrated it from him except Khalid bin al-Harith, and Abu al-Ash'ath is alone in narrating it from Khalid." Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated in 22/ (14170), via Muhammad bin Ja'far, from Shu'bah bin al-Hajjaj, with this same chain, from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about a debt owed by my father, and (from intense grief or anger) my state was as though I were a spark of fire."
