Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7949

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out during the illness in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, with a bandage tied around his (peace and blessings be upon him) head. I followed behind him (peace and blessings be upon him) until he (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: "At this moment I am standing at the Pool of Kawthar (waiting for you)." Then he said: "A servant was offered the world and its adornment, but he chose the Hereafter." No one among the people grasped the depth of this except Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: May my mother and father be sacrificed for you! Rather, we would ransom you with our lives, our children, our wealth and our dependants. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) came down from the pulpit, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was not seen (on it) again up to this hour.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and the purpose of bringing it here is to show that it is permissible for people to say to one another "May I be your ransom" or "Ju'iltu fidak" (May I be made your ransom).
