It is narrated from Hisham bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is your name?" I said: Shihab. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Rather, you are Hisham."

Hadith Takhrij«
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts, due to corruption, "Rashid" has been written.
Grading: It is "hasan" on the basis of the preceding supporting reports, but this chain in itself is da'if (weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an is weak, and al-Hasan al-Basri is a mudallis who did not explicitly state that he heard from Hisham bin 'Amir. Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (9/ 25), al-Dinawari in "al-Mujalasah" (2497), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (22/ 442), 'Abd al-Ghani al-Misri in "al-Ghawamid wa al-Mubhamat" (30), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (6538), al-Khatib in "al-Asma' al-Mubhamah" (5/ 329), and Ibn Bashkuwal in (2/ 617) narrated it by various routes from Mu'alla bin Asad. Note / Clarification: In the book "al-Mujalasah" the name Mu'alla has been corrupted and written as "Mu'adh".
