It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked a man: "What is your name?" He said: Shihab (flame of fire). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are Hisham."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it; and that man was Hisham bin Amir al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him).

Grading: The chain is hasan on account of 'Imran bin Dawar al-Qattan. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Muslim refers to "Ibrahim bin 'Abdullah bin Muslim al-Kajji", and Sa'd bin Hisham refers to "Sa'd bin Hisham bin 'Amir al-Ansari". Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (41/ 24465) and Ibn Hibban (5823) narrated it through the chain of Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi from 'Imran al-Qattan. Important point: See the discussion after it.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts, through corruption, "'Amr" has been written.
