Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7919

Abdullah bin Muti' bin al-Aswad narrates from his father that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say on the day of the Conquest of Makkah: "After this day, no Qurayshi shall be killed in captivity (sabran) until the Day of Resurrection." He said: None of the disobedient ones of Quraysh accepted Islam (at that time) except my father. His name was "al-As" (the disobedient), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) named him "Muti'" (the obedient).
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: This wording had dropped out of the manuscripts, and we have established and recorded it with the help of Ibn Hajar's "Ithaf al-Maharah" (16583).

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts the word "yatruk" has been written by mistake, whereas in Imam al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis" the word appears correctly.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya bin Sa'id in the chain refers to Imam "Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan", and 'Amir refers to Imam "'Amir bin Sharahil al-Sha'bi".
Reference / Source: Imam Ibn Hibban (3718) narrated it through Abu Khalifah al-Fadl bin al-Hubab, from Musaddad bin Musarhad, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in (24/ 15409) and (29/ 17867) by way of Imam Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (24/ 15407 and 29/ 17868) and Imam Muslim (1782) narrated it, in full and in abridged form, by various routes from Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Hakim's bringing this hadith into the "Mustadrak" is an oversight and lapse of memory on his part, since this narration is already present in "Sahih Muslim".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (24/ 15408 and 29/ 17869) narrated it through the chain of 'Abdullah bin Abi al-Safar from 'Amir al-Sha'bi.
Details of the narration: In this route there is also this addition: "Makkah will never be invaded after this year."
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (24/ 15406 and 29/ 17866) narrated it in abridged form by way of Firas bin Yahya from 'Amir al-Sha'bi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this narration al-Sha'bi transmits directly from "Muti' bin al-Aswad", and his son "'Abdullah bin Muti'" is not mentioned in this chain.
Important point: This hadith has already passed under number (6778) through the chain of Zakariyya bin Abi Za'idah from al-Sha'bi from al-Harith bin Malik, and we have discussed it in detail there.
Note / Clarification: The linguistic and technical meaning of the hadith's words "'usat Quraysh" is this: it refers to those people who had been named "al-'As" (disobedient).
