Isam bin Bashir narrates from his father that he said: My people, Banu al-Harith bin Ka'b, sent me as a delegate to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Welcome! What is your name?" I said: Kathir. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, rather you are Bashir (bearer of glad tidings)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts there is a corruption (a scribal error) here, and the word "al-Zahrani" has been written (which is contrary to the original).

Grading: Its chain is "hasan" on account of 'Isam bin Bashir.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group of hadith scholars narrated from the narrator 'Isam bin Bashir, and Imam Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book "al-Thiqat", which is evidence of his being declared trustworthy.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Nasa'i (10072) narrated it through the chain of Ahmad bin Sulayman from Sa'id bin Marwan, with this same preceding chain.
