Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7917

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah's anger is severe upon a man whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has killed, and Allah's anger is also severe upon a man who named himself malik al-amlak (King of Kings) - whereas there is no (true) king except Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain of it is qawi (strong) and muttasil (connected) through Muhammad bin Sirin, provided that his mention in this chain is preserved (mahfuz), because no one other than al-Hakim mentioned him in this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): According to Imam Ahmad, Khilas (Ibn 'Amr al-Hajari) did not hear from Abu Hurayrah; that is why in Sahih al-Bukhari his narration from Abu Hurayrah is mentioned coupled (maqrunan) with the narration of Muhammad bin Sirin.
Reference / Source: The second part of it was narrated by Imam Ahmad (16/ 10384) from Muhammad bin Ja'far (Ghundar) and Rawh bin 'Ubadah, with the chain 'Awf bin Abi Jamilah, from Khilas (alone).
Reference / Source: The first part of it was narrated by Imam Ahmad (13/ 8214), al-Bukhari (4073) and Muslim (1793) through the route of Hammam bin Munabbih, from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
