Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7799

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated while standing, and some drops of his urine splashed onto his shins and feet. A man said to him: "Drops of your urine have got onto your feet and shins." He gave him no reply until he reached the house of some people and asked them for water for ablution. They brought out water, so he performed ablution and washed his shins and feet. Then he turned to that man and asked: "What did you say?" He said: "Now you have done it (by washing)." Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is the remedy for this (outward impurity), and the remedy for sins is that you seek forgiveness from Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
Although this report is mawquf (a Companion's statement), its chain from Sayyiduna Anas to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with them both) is sahih (authentic), and this is its (proper) place.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if jiddan" (very weak) because of Bashshar bin al-Hakam (al-Dabbi al-Basri).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): About Bashshar bin al-Hakam, Imam Abu Zur'ah says: he is "munkar al-hadith". Imam Ibn Hibban writes in "al-Majruhin": "He is severely munkar al-hadith; he is alone in narrating from Thabit things that are not from his hadith." Imam Ibn 'Adi says that he narrates munkar reports from Thabit al-Bunani and others, but at the end of his discussion he said that his narrations from Thabit are isolated (afradat) and that he hopes there is no harm in him (la ba'sa bih).
Reference / Source: Imam al-Dulabi narrated it in "al-Kuna" (695) by way of Mu'alla bin Asad, from Bashshar bin al-Hakam, with this same chain.
Note / Clarification: In this narration the name "Bashshar" has been miswritten (tashif) as "Yasar".
