Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) Its chain is da'if (weak) because of its idtirab (inconsistency) and because 'Umar bin Nabhan is unknown.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Sinan al-Qazzaz, although he has been criticised, is corroborated, and there is disagreement over Ibn Jurayj in this narration. Al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (1166): "There is disagreement from him: Hammad bin Mas'adah and others narrated it from Ibn Jurayj, from Abu al-Zubayr, from 'Umar bin Nabhan, from Abu Tha'labah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Others narrated it from Ibn Jurayj with this chain from Abu Hurayrah. Then (al-Daraqutni) said: "The correct view is that of Hammad bin Mas'adah and those who followed him, because he mentioned Abu Tha'labah in it and mentioned Abu Hurayrah at its end."
Note / Clarification: We say: a reference to this will come.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu al-Zubayr (Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus) is alone in narrating from 'Umar bin Nabhan. Imam al-Bukhari said: I do not know who 'Umar is; Abu Hatim said something similar, while al-Dhahabi and Ibn Hajar declared him majhul (unknown); Ibn Hibban, however, was lenient and mentioned him in "al-Thiqat".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for Abu Tha'labah, Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" (6/ 138), in the biography of 'Umar bin Nabhan, quoted his father's statement: "I do not know him, nor do I know Abu Tha'labah." Ibn Hajar quoted the same from al-Bukhari in "al-Tahdhib". Then the two of them gave him an entry under the kunyas, described him as "al-Ashja'i" and said: he was a Companion! Ibn Sa'd, Ibn Abi 'Asim and al-Dulabi all described him as "al-Ashja'i", whereas Ibn Hibban, in the biography of 'Umar bin Nabhan in "al-Thiqat", and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" described him as "al-Khushani". Al-Daraqutni says in "al-'Ilal": "It is said that this is Abu Tha'labah al-Ashja'i, not al-Khushani."
Reference / Source: As for the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, Imam Ahmad (14/ 8425) narrated it, and al-Khara'iti in "Makarim al-Akhlaq" (699) from Hammad bin al-Hasan al-Warraq; both of them (Ahmad and al-Warraq) narrate it from Hammad bin Mas'adah, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (8/ 552-553) recorded it via Mandal bin 'Ali, and al-Bayhaqi in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (8678) via Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Ansari, and both of them narrate it from Ibn Jurayj, with this chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (6199) narrated something similar via 'Ubayd bin 'Amr al-Hanafi, from Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani, from Muhammad bin Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah.
Grading: Al-Haythami said in "al-Majma'" (8/ 158): "It contains narrators whom I do not know."
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar narrated in his "Musnad" (9689) via Layth bin Abi Sulaym, from Abu Razin, from Abu Hurayrah, as marfu': "Whoever strives to provide for three daughters will be in Paradise, and he will have a reward like that of one who fights in the way of Allah while fasting and standing in prayer."
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak) because of the weakness of Layth bin Abi Sulaym.
Reference / Source: As for the hadith of Abu Tha'labah, Imam Ahmad (45/ 27220), Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Ahad wa al-Mathani" (1311), al-Ruyani in his "Musnad" (1473), al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna" (138) and al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (22/ 601) narrated it via various routes from Hammad bin Mas'adah, from Ibn Jurayj, from Abu al-Zubayr, from 'Umar bin Nabhan, from Abu Tha'labah al-Ashja'i, who said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, two children of mine have died in Islam. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever has two children die in Islam, Allah will admit him to Paradise by the grace of His mercy to them." He said: Some time after that, I met Abu Hurayrah, who asked: Are you the one to whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said what he said about the two children? I said: Yes. He said: "That he had said it to me is dearer to me than everything that Hims and Palestine have closed their gates upon (i.e. all their wealth)."
Note / Clarification: Among all of them, only al-Tabarani described him as "al-Khushani".
Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (5/ 172), al-Bukhari in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (6/ 201) and al-Tabarani (22/ 956) narrated it in abridged form via two routes from Ibn Jurayj, but they did not mention the story of meeting Abu Hurayrah.
