Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 7491

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that it was said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! So-and-so (a woman) prays at night (tahajjud) and fasts by day, but she harms her neighbours with her tongue; she is very foul-mouthed." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no good in her; she is in the Fire (Hell)." And it was said to him (peace and blessings be upon him) (about another woman): "So-and-so only prays the obligatory prayers, fasts Ramadan and gives pieces of cheese (something small) in charity; she has nothing (of voluntary deeds) besides that, but she does not harm anyone." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She is in Paradise."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: This hadith is hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): No one narrated from Abu Yahya, the client of Ja'dah, except Sulayman al-A'mash; however, Imam Muslim took one narration of his as a corroboration (mutaba'ah), Ibn Ma'in declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat". Ahmad bin 'Abd al-Jabbar - although there is some weakness (lin) in him - has been corroborated. In the chain, "Abu Mu'awiyah" is Muhammad bin Khazim al-Darir.
Reference / Source: It was narrated by Imam Ahmad (15/ 9676) and Ibn Hibban (5764) via the route of Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah, from al-A'mash, with this same chain.

Important point: See the narration after it.
Note / Clarification: The phrase "tatasaddaqu bil-athwar": this refers to "pieces of dried curd" (aqit), as stated in some narrations, including the one that follows, and these are pieces of hardened (dried) milk.
