It is narrated from Abu Salamah that Abu al-Raddad fell ill, and Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf came to visit him. Abu al-Raddad said (in his praise): As far as I know, the best of them and the most devoted to maintaining ties of kinship is Abu Muhammad (Abd al-Rahman bin Awf). Then Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: I am Allah and I am al-Rahman. I created al-rahim (the tie of kinship) and derived it from My name. So whoever joins it, I will join him, and whoever severs it, I will cut him off."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi". All the narrators of this chain are trustworthy except "Abu al-Raddad", whose status we have stated in the previous narration. Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is also disagreement over Sufyan - who is Ibn 'Uyaynah - in this hadith, as al-Daraqutni indicated in "al-'Ilal". Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (3/ 1686) recorded it, and likewise al-Tirmidhi (1907) by way of Muhammad bin Abi 'Umar and Sa'id bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Makhzumi; all three of them (Ahmad, Ibn Abi 'Umar and Sa'id) narrate it from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, with this chain. Grading: And Imam al-Tirmidhi declared it sahih. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1694) recorded it from Musaddad and Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah; both of them from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah, from 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Awf (may Allah be pleased with him). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The intermediary "Abu al-Raddad" is not in this chain.
