Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 745

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the muezzin, he would say (in response to the two testimonies): "And I too (bear witness), and I too (bear witness)."

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (1683) recorded it through al-Hasan bin Sufyan, from Sahl bin Uthman al-Askari, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (526) recorded it by way of Ali bin Mushir from Hisham bin Urwah.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 41/(24933) recorded through Amr bin Maymun bin Mihran, from his father, from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the caller, he would say: "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is weak because of the break (inqita', i.e., a missing narrator) between Maymun bin Mihran and A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
