أخبرني أبو بكر إسماعيل بن محمد الفقيه بالرَّي، حدثنا محمد بن الفَرَج، حدثنا حجَّاج بن محمد، حدثنا شُعبة، عن عطاء عطاء بن السائب، عن أبيه، عن عبد الله بن عمرو قال: جاء رجلٌ إلى النبيِّ ﷺ يُبايعُه على الهجرة [فقال: إنِّي جئت أبايعُك على الهجرة] (1) وتركتُ أبويَّ يبكيانِ، فقال: "ارجِعْ إليهما، فأضحِكْهما كما أبكيتَهما" (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to pledge allegiance to him for Hijrah and said: I have come to pledge allegiance to you for Hijrah, and I have left my parents weeping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back to them and make them laugh just as you made them weep."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) ما بين المعقوفين سقط من النسخ الخطية، واستدركناه من الرواية السابقة برقم (7437).
Note / Clarification: The text between the square brackets had dropped out of the manuscripts, and we restored it from the earlier narration number (7437).
(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن من أجل محمد بن الفرج، وقد توبع، وشعبة سماعه من عطاء بن السائب قبل اختلاطه.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin al-Faraj, and he has been corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Shu'bah (in the chain) heard from 'Ata' bin al-Sa'ib before his ikhtilat (deterioration of memory).
وأخرجه أحمد 11/ (6909)، وحسين المروزي في "البر والصلة" (73)، والطبراني في "الكبير" (14484)، وأبو الشيخ في "طبقات محدثي أصبهان" 4/ 28 من طرق عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (11/ 6909), Husayn al-Marwazi in "al-Birr wa al-Silah" (73), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (14484) and Abu al-Shaykh in "Tabaqat al-Muhaddithin bi-Asbahan" (4/ 28) recorded it through various routes from Shu'bah, with this chain.
وسلف برقم (7437) من طريق سفيان الثَّوري عن عطاء بن السائب.
