It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rimthah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and heard him (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "(Be kind to) your mother and your father, and your sister and your brother, then whoever is nearest to you, and then the next nearest."

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ja'far bin 'Awn heard from al-Mas'udi - who is 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Abdullah - before his ikhtilat (deterioration of memory). Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad recorded it 11/ (7105) from 'Amr bin al-Haytham and Abu al-Nadr Hashim bin al-Qasim, and 29/ (17495) from Yazid bin Harun; all three narrate it from al-Mas'udi with this chain. This narration contains an addition. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad also recorded it (7106) by way of 'Abd al-Malik bin 'Umayr, from Iyad bin Laqit. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad also recorded it (7018) by way of Hammad bin Salamah, from 'Asim bin Bahdalah, from Abu Rimthah. Technical note / Defect ('illah): We do not know of 'Asim having heard (directly) from Abu Rimthah. (6708). Important point: See the earlier narrations numbers (4265) and (6708).
