It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into the vessel and drinking (directly) from the mouth of a waterskin.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Bukhari, and the two Shaykhs agreed on the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) in which breathing into the vessel is forbidden.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Khalid in the chain is Khalid bin Mihran al-Hadhdha'. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari narrated it in (5629) from Musaddad bin Musarhad with this same chain, but he confined himself to its second part only. Reference / Source: Ibn Majah narrated it in full and in parts in (3421) and (3428) from Bakr bin Khalaf, and Ibn Hibban in (5316) through the route of al-Fudayl bin al-Husayn; both of them narrate from Yazid bin Zuray'. Reference / Source: Ahmad narrated it in 3/ (1907), Abu Dawud in (3728) and al-Tirmidhi in (1888) through the route of Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, while Ibn Majah narrated it in (3288) through the route of Sharik bin 'Abd Allah al-Nakha'i; both of them narrate from 'Abd al-Karim bin Malik al-Jazari, from 'Ikrimah. Details of the narration: The wording of Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah's narration is: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade breathing into the vessel or blowing into it." Details of the narration: The wording of Sharik bin 'Abd Allah's narration is: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not blow into food or into drink, nor would he breathe into the vessel." (1645). Reference / Source: The prohibition of drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin has passed earlier in hadith no. (1645). 17/ 335. General principle: His (peace and blessings be upon him) words "He forbade breathing into the vessel" appear on the surface to contradict the previous hadith of Anas. Ibn al-Athir reconciled them in "al-Nihayah" 5/ 94, saying: One case is to breathe into the vessel while drinking without moving it away from the mouth; this is disliked (makruh). The other case is to drink in three breaths, separating the vessel from the mouth each time to take a breath (this is recommended). For further detail see "Fath al-Bari" 17/ 335.
