حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد الحَكَم، أخبرنا أنس بن عِيَاض، عن الحارث بن عبد الرحمن الدَّوْسي، عن عَمِّه، عن أبي هريرة، أن النبي ﷺ قال: "لا يَتنفّسْ أحدُكم في الإناء إذا كان يَشربُ منه، ولكن إذا أراد أن يَتنفَّسَ فليؤخِّرْه عنه، ثم يتنفَّسُ" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any of you is drinking from a vessel, let him not breathe into it; rather, if he wishes to breathe, let him move the vessel away from himself, then breathe."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(1) إسناده ليّن من أجل عم الحارث بن عبد الرحمن - وهو ابن عبد الله بن سعد، ويقال: المغيرة أبي ذباب - الدوسي، وسمّاه ابن حبان في "ثقاته" 5/ 34 و "صحيحه" بإثر الحديث (3479): عبد الله بن المغيرة بن أبي ذباب، وتبعه المزي في قسم المبهمات من "تهذيبه" 35/ 69، ولا يعرف في الرواة عنه غير ابن أخيه الحارث. وجعله البوصيري في "مصباح الزجاجة" عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن الحارث، فوهم.
Grading: Its chain is "layyin" (soft/weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason for this is the paternal uncle of al-Harith bin 'Abd al-Rahman (who is called Ibn 'Abd Allah bin Sa'd, or al-Mughirah Abi Dhubab al-Dawsi). Ibn Hibban, in "al-Thiqat" 5/ 34 and in "Sahih Ibn Hibban" after (3479), gave his name as 'Abd Allah bin al-Mughirah bin Abi Dhubab, and al-Mizzi also followed him in "Tahdhib al-Kamal" 35/ 69. No narrator from him is known other than his nephew al-Harith. Al-Busiri in "Misbah al-Zujajah" named him 'Abd Allah bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Harith, which is his error.
وأخرجه ابن ماجه (3427) من طريق عبد العزيز الدراوردي، عن الحارث بن عبد الرحمن، بهذا الإسناد. ولفظه: إذا شرب أحدُكم فلا يتنفس في الإناء، فإذا أراد أن يعود، فليُنحِّ الإناءَ ثم ليعُدْ إن كان يريدُ".
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah narrated it in (3427) through the route of 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Darawardi, from al-Harith bin 'Abd al-Rahman, with this same chain.
Details of the narration: The wording is: "When one of you drinks, let him not breathe into the vessel; if he wants to drink again, let him move the vessel away (from his mouth) and then drink again if he wishes."
