Awn bin Abi Juhayfah narrates from his father, who said: I saw Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) giving the adhan, turning around and following his mouth this way and that (during the adhan), with his fingers in his ears, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a red tent made of leather. Then Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came out ahead of him with a short spear ('anazah) and planted it in al-Batha, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed facing it, while dogs and donkeys passed in front of him. He was wearing a red suit of clothes, and it is as though I can still see the gleam of his shins.
