Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 734M

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would give the adhan and then wait a little; when he saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had come out (of his apartment), he would then call the iqamah.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" on account of Simak bin Harb, and this narration will come again with the first chain under number (868).
Reference / Source: Ahmad 34/(20804), (20850) and (21007), Abu Dawud (537) and al-Tirmidhi (202) recorded it by various routes through Isra'il (bin Yunus) with this same chain. Al-Tirmidhi called it "a hasan hadith".
Reference / Source: A narration of similar meaning was recorded by Ahmad (20849) and Muslim (606) with the chain Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah from Simak bin Harb, in these words: "Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would give the adhan as soon as the sun declined, and he would not give the iqamah until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out; then when he saw him, he would give the iqamah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This wording is Muslim's, so al-Hakim's listing of it as an addition (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (713) recorded it with the chain Sharik bin Abd Allah al-Nakha'i from Simak, from Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: "Bilal would not delay the adhan beyond its time, though sometimes he would delay the iqamah a little."
Note / Clarification: For further study, see the hadith that will come later under number (1069).
