Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 684

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "In it are men who love to purify themselves" [Surah al-Tawbah: 108], that when this verse was revealed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for Uwaym bin Sa'idah (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: "What is this purity for which Allah has praised you?" He said: "O Prophet of Allah! Whenever any man or woman among us finishes relieving himself, he washes his private part (with water)." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "So this is it (the reason for the praise)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.
