إذا دخل أحدكم الغائط فليقل أعوذ بالله من الرجس النجس الشيطان الرجيم

Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 685

حدَّثناه أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن أيوب. وأخبرني عبد الله بن محمد بن موسى، حدّثنا إسماعيل بن قُتَيبة؛ قالا: حدّثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شَيْبة، حدّثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان، عن واصل بن السائب الرَّقَاشي، عن عطاء بن أبي رَبَاح وابن سَوْرة (1)، عن عمِّه أبي أيوب قال: قالوا: يا رسول الله، مَن هؤلاء الذين فيه ﴿رِجَالٌ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَتَطَهَّرُوا وَاللَّهُ يُحِبُّ الْمُطَّهِّرِينَ﴾؟ قال: "كانوا يَستنجُون بالماء، وكانوا لا ينامون الليلَ كلَّه" (2). هذا آخر ما انتهى إلينا من كتاب الطهارة على شرط الشيخين ﵄ ممَّا لم يُخرجاه [أول كتاب الصلاة] [1 - باب في مواقيت الصلاة]
The nephew of Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from his uncle that the Companions said: "O Messenger of Allah! Who are these people about whom this verse was revealed: 'Men who love to purify themselves, and Allah loves those who purify themselves' [Surah al-Tawbah: 108]?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are people who used to cleanse themselves after relieving themselves (istinja) with water, and they would not sleep the whole night (but would worship)." Imam al-Hakim says: Here ends the part of the Book of Purification that was on the condition of the two Shaykhs but which they did not record. (1) كذا وقع في النسخ الخطية: ابن سورة، والمشهور في كتب التراجم: أبو سورة.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts this name appears as "Ibn Surah", whereas the well-known name in the books of narrator biographies is "Abu Surah".
(2) إسناده ضعيف لضعف واصل بن السائب وهو متفق على ضعفه، وأبو سورة ضعيف كذلك إلّا أنه هنا قُرن بعطاء.
Grading: Its chain is da'if because of the weakness of Wasil bin al-Sa'ib, whose weakness the hadith scholars agree upon.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Surah is also a weak narrator; however, here he is mentioned together with (maqrunan) Ata' (bin Abi Rabah).
وهو في "مسند ابن أبي شيبة" (12)، ومن طريق ابن أبي شيبة أخرجه الطبراني في "الكبير" (4070).
Reference / Source: This narration is in "Musnad Ibn Abi Shaybah" (12), and al-Tabarani reported it in "al-Kabir" (4070) through Ibn Abi Shaybah himself.
وأخرجه ابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" 6/ 1883 من طريق ضرار بن صُرَد، عن عبد الرحيم بن سليمان، به. ولم يذكر فيه عطاءً.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim narrated it in his "Tafsir" 6/ 1883 via Dirar bin Surad, from Abd al-Rahim bin Sulayman, with this same chain, but he did not mention Ata' in it.
