Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 682

حدّثنا علي بن حَمْشَاذ العَدْل، حدّثنا عبد الله بن أيوب بن زاذانَ الضرير. وأخبرنا أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حدّثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل؛ قالا: حدّثنا هُدْبة بن خالد، حدّثنا همَّام، حدّثنا ابن جُرَيج، عن الزُّهْرِي؛ قال: ولا أعلمُه إلّا عن الزهري عن أنسٍ: أنَّ النبي ﷺ كان إذا دخلَ الخَلَاءَ وَضَعَ خاتمَه (1).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the toilet, he would take off his ring.

(1) إسناده ضعيف، ابن جريج مشهور بالتدليس وقد رواه بالعنعنة.
Grading: Its chain is da'if, because Ibn Jurayj (Abd al-Malik bin Abd al-Aziz) is well known for tadlis and he narrated this with 'an ('an'anah), which does not state explicitly that he heard it.
وأخرجه ابن حبان (1413) عن عمران بن موسى بن مجاشع، عن هدبة بن خالد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (1413) narrated it from Imran bin Musa bin Mujashi', from Hudbah bin Khalid, with this same chain.
وأخرجه أبو داود (19)، وابن ماجه (303)، والترمذيّ (1746)، والنسائي (9470) من طرق عن همّام بن يحيى، به. قال أبو داود: هذا حديث منكر، وقال الترمذيّ: حديث حسن صحيح.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (19), Ibn Majah (303), al-Tirmidhi (1746) and al-Nasa'i (9470) narrated it through various routes from Hammam bin Yahya.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Dawud said this hadith is "munkar", while al-Tirmidhi graded it "hasan sahih".
