It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he did not fix any time limit for wiping over the leather socks.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "al-Sunan" (1/ 280) from Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Hafiz (al-Hakim), with this chain, and al-Daraqutni (758) recorded it via Abu al-Azhar, from Rawh bin Ubadah, with it. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: In al-Daraqutni, Abd Allah bin Bakr al-Sahmi corroborated Rawh (bin Ubadah), from Hisham bin Hassan. Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni also recorded something similar (759, 760) via Abd Allah bin Raja', from Ubayd Allah bin Umar, with it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is recklessness (mujazafah) on the part of the author (al-Hakim) (may Allah have mercy on him), since the chain contains al-Miqdam bin Dawud bin Talid, and no one is reported to have declared him trustworthy. Important point: Al-Nasa'i, al-Daraqutni and others declared him weak, and Ibn Abi Hatim and Ibn Yunus said: they criticized him. See his biography in al-Dhahabi's "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (13/ 345) and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "Lisan al-Mizan".
