It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin Nadlah al-Jushami (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a shabby state. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have wealth?" I said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What kind of wealth?" I said: "Of every kind: camels, horses, slaves and sheep." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Since Allah has given you wealth, its effect should be visible on you." The narrator says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are the camels of your people born with sound ears, and then you take a razor and cut their ears and say that they are 'buhur' (earless), and you slit their ears or their hides and say that they are 'surum' (forbidden), and then you make them unlawful for yourself and your family?" I said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then whatever Allah has given you is lawful for you; the arm of Allah is stronger than your arm, and the razor of Allah is sharper than your razor."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain. A group of the imams of Kufah narrated it from Abu Ishaq, and Abu al-Za'ra' Amr bin Amr corroborated Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i. The two of them did not record it because Malik bin Nadlah has no narrator other than his son Abu al-Ahwas, whereas Imam Muslim recorded the narration of Abu al-Malih bin Usamah from his father, who has no narrator other than his son, and likewise the narration of Abu Malik al-Ashja'i from his father. Therefore this one is more deserving than all of those.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Manuscript (Z) and the other source works have it this way; the word is the plural of "sarim", meaning an animal whose ear has been cut off (al-sarm means cutting), as Ibn al-Athir mentioned in "al-Nihayah". In manuscript (S) and the printed edition of al-Mustadrak this word is distorted to "hurum" (with ha').
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrators are identified as follows: Abu al-Muthanna is Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna bin Mu'adh al-Anbari; Muhammad bin Ayyub is Ibn al-Durays; Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi is Hisham bin Abd al-Malik; Abu Ishaq is Amr bin Abd Allah al-Sabi'i; and Abu al-Ahwas is Awf bin Malik bin Nadlah al-Jushami. Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban narrated it at (5416) and (5615) from Abu Khalifah al-Fadl bin al-Hubab, from Abu al-Walid al-Tayalisi, with this chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Imam Ahmad narrated it in his Musnad 25/(15888) and (15891) through two different routes from Shu'bah. Details of the narration: The first part of this hadith was narrated by Imam Ahmad (in several places), Abu Dawud (4063), al-Tirmidhi (2006) and al-Nasa'i (9484 to 9486) through routes from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it at (15892) by way of Abd al-Malik bin Umayr, and at (17228), as did al-Nasa'i at (11090), by way of Abu al-Za'ra' Amr bin Amr; both of them narrate from Abu al-Ahwas. Important point: Abd al-Malik bin Umayr limited himself to the first part only. (7551). Important point: This same narration will come later at number (7551) in more detail than the present text. Note / Clarification: The word "buhur" is the plural of "bahirah". The custom of the Arabs was that when a she-camel gave birth to a male, they would slit its ear (which is called bahr) and say: O Allah, if it lives it is for work, and if it dies it is slaughtered (lawful). When it died they would eat it and call it "bahirah". Note / Clarification: "Qashif al-hay'ah" means a person whose outward appearance is unkempt and shabby and who has given up comfort and adornment.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (Z) the word is distorted here and mistakenly written "Abu Ishaq".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author's saying so is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part, because Imam Muslim recorded no narration of Abu al-Malih from his father; rather, he and Imam al-Bukhari recorded his narrations from others, while his father Usamah has no narration with either of them (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
