Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came and said: "I became ritually impure (janabah) and rolled about in the dust." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Strike (like this)." Then he struck the ground with both his hands and wiped his face, then struck with his hands again and wiped his two arms up to the elbows.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
1/ 114. Technical note / Defect ('illah): This is how it occurs in the narration of Ibrahim al-Harbi from Abu Nu'aym with the author (al-Hakim), and from him al-Bayhaqi in "al-Sunan" 1/ 207, and likewise with al-Daraqutni (692); it is an old misreading (tashif), and the correct wording is "asirta himaran" (did you call to a donkey?), as it is in Abu Nu'aym's own book "al-Salah" (145), and al-Tahawi narrated it correctly via him in "Sharh Ma'ani al-Athar" 1/ 114. Grading: This hadith is mawquf on Jabir bin Abd Allah (may Allah be pleased with him), and al-Bayhaqi declared its chain sahih. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (1/ 159) likewise recorded it as mawquf from Waki', and Ibn al-Mundhir in "al-Awsat" (536) via Ibn al-Mubarak; both of them from Azrah bin Thabit, with it.
