Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: We performed tayammum with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). We struck our hands on clean earth, then shook off our hands and wiped our faces with them. Then we struck the clean earth a second time, shook off our hands, and with them wiped from the elbows to the palms, over where the hair grows, the outer and inner sides.
This hadith is explanatory (mufassar). I have mentioned it as a supporting narration (shahid) because, although Sulayman bin Arqam is not on the condition of this book, we have made it our condition to take narrations like his among the supporting narrations.

15/ 551. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The manuscripts have "Ibrahim bin Isma'il", but the correct name is "Isma'il bin Ibrahim", as it comes in more than one place in this book. Note / Clarification: See his biography in "Tarikh Baghdad" 11/ 63 and "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" 15/ 551.
Grading: Its chain is very weak (da'if jiddan). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sulayman bin Arqam is matruk al-hadith (his hadith are abandoned). Abu Nu'aym is al-Fadl bin Dukayn. Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni (688) recorded it from Muhammad bin Ali bin Isma'il al-Ubulli, from al-Haytham bin Khalid, with this chain, and declared it weak because of Sulayman bin Arqam. Grading: Al-Bayhaqi likewise declared it weak for the same reason in his "Sunan" (1/ 207), saying that his hadith is not used as proof.
