Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We did not perform ablution because of treading (on something impure), nor did we tuck up our hair or clothes (in prayer).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Bukhari and Imam Muslim, but they did not record the mention of treading (stepping on something).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Mu'awiyah is Muhammad bin Khazim, Sharik is Ibn Abd Allah al-Nakha'i, Jarir is Ibn Abd al-Hamid, Shaqiq is Ibn Salamah "Abu Wa'il", and Abd Allah is Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
Note / Clarification: This narration has already passed at numbers (488 - 490).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Supporting the point about not tucking up the hair and garments (kaff) is the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), in which he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have been commanded to prostrate on seven bones, and not to tuck up hair or garments."
