أخبرنا أبو جعفر محمد بن محمد بن عبد الله البغدادي، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن عثمان بن صالح السَّهْمي، حَدَّثَنَا عمرو بن الرَّبيع بن طارق. وحدثنا أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيه، حَدَّثَنَا أبو المثنَّى العَنبَري، حَدَّثَنَا يحيى بن مَعِين، حَدَّثَنَا عمرو بن الرَّبيع بن طارق، أخبرنا يحيى بن أيوب، عن عبد الرحمن بن رَزِين، عن محمد بن يزيد بن أبي زياد - قال يحيى: شيخ من أهل مصر - عن عُبَادة بن نُسَيّ، عن أُبيِّ بن عِمَارة - وقد كان صلَّى مع رسول الله ﷺ القِبلتين - أنه قال: يا رسول الله، أمسَحُ على الخفَّين؟ قال: "نعم" قال: يومًا؟ قال: "ويومَين" قال: وثلاثةً؟ قال: "نَعَم، ما شئتَ" (2). أُبي بن عِمارة صحابيُّ معروف، وهذا إسناد مصري لم يُنسَب واحدٌ منهم إلى جَرْح، وإلى هذا ذهب مالك بن أنس، ولم يُخرجاه.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Imarah (may Allah be pleased with him), who had prayed towards both qiblahs with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that he said: "O Messenger of Allah, may I wipe over leather socks?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." He asked: "For one day?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And two days as well." He asked: "And three days?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, as long as you wish."
Ubayy bin Imarah is a well-known Companion, and this is an Egyptian chain in which none of the narrators has been criticised. Imam Malik bin Anas held this view, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

(2) إسناده ضعيف جدًّا لجهالة عبد الرحمن بن رزين ومحمد بن يزيد، وقد اختُلف في إسناده على يحيى بن أيوب اختلافًا كثيرًا كما قال الدارقطني في "سننه" (765)، وقال النووي في "شرح مسلم": حديث أُبي بن عمارة في ترك التوقيت حديث ضعيف باتفاق أهل الحديث.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if jiddan" (very weak).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The reason is the unknown status of Abd al-Rahman bin Razin and Muhammad bin Yazid. According to al-Daraqutni (in his "Sunan", 765), there is much disagreement over this chain on Yahya bin Ayyub.
Important point: Al-Nawawi says in "Sharh Muslim" that the hadith of Ubayy bin Imarah about not fixing a time limit (for wiping) is weak by agreement of the hadith scholars.
وأخرجه أبو داود (158) عن يحيى بن معين بهذا الإسناد وزاد فيه بين محمد بن يزيد وعبادة بن نُسي أيوبَ بن قَطَن، وهو مجهول أيضًا، وقال أبو داود: قد اختُلف في إسناده وليس بالقوي.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (158) recorded it from Yahya bin Ma'in, but between Muhammad bin Yazid and Ubadah bin Nusayy it adds "Ayyub bin Qatan", who is also unknown (majhul).
Grading: Abu Dawud says there is disagreement over its chain and that it is not strong.
وأخرجه ابن ماجه (557) من طريق عبد الله بن وهب، عن يحيى بن أيوب، به كإسناد أبي داود.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah recorded it (557) via Abd Allah bin Wahb, from Yahya bin Ayyub, with a chain like that of Abu Dawud.
