Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (2) The base manuscripts of "al-Mustadrak" have "Ahmad bin Yahya bin Razin", for whom we found no biography. In this generation there is "Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ali bin Razin", who is "thiqah"; perhaps he is the one meant, and Allah knows best.
Grading: (3) Its chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Hazim (Salamah bin Dinar al-Madani al-A'raj) did not meet Abu Hurayrah (al-Dhahabi: al-Talkhis). With the others who recorded it, "Abu Salih Dhakwan al-Samman" stands between them, which makes the chain connected. Even so, the defect of "idtirab" (inconsistency) remains, because "Abu Sakhr" (Humayd bin Ziyad) was contradicted in it. Abu Sakhr is a narrator about whom opinions differ; he is "hasan al-hadith" except when he contradicts others, and he is one of Muslim's narrators, not al-Bukhari's.
Reference / Source: Ahmad and his son Abd Allah recorded it in "al-Musnad" (15/ 9198) from Harun bin Ma'ruf with this chain (with Abu Salih mentioned in it).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Abu Sakhr was corroborated by "Khalid bin al-Waddah" (Ibn Adi: 2/ 269, al-Lalaka'i: 1680). But no one other than al-Zubayr bin Bakkar is known to have narrated from Khalid, and no one is reported to have declared him trustworthy, so he is among the "majhul" (unknown) narrators.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Mus'ab bin Thabit contradicted them, narrating it "from Abu Hazim, from Sahl bin Sa'd" from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (Ahmad: 37/ 22840). This is "da'if" because of the weakness of Mus'ab. Umar bin Suhban corroborated him on this, and he is even weaker than him.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Usamah bin Zayd al-Laythi contradicted them, narrating it "from Abu Hazim, from Awn (bin Abd Allah), from Ibn Mas'ud" from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (Tammam: 944). Usamah is "hasan al-hadith" except when he contradicts others.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): All of them were contradicted by Abd al-Rahman bin Abd Allah al-Mas'udi, who narrated it "from Abu Hazim, from Awn, from Ibn Mas'ud" as mawquf (Ibn Abi Shaybah: 13/ 293, al-Tabarani: 8976, al-Bayhaqi: 7768). Al-Daraqutni (al-Ilal: 5/ 232, 8/ 182) said: "This is the most correct". We say: it is as he said. Al-Mas'udi is strong; although he became confused in later life (ikhtilat), some of those who narrated this report from him heard from him before his confusion. However, the defect of "inqita'" (a break) remains, because Awn's narration from Ibn Mas'ud is "mursal".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) Rather, it has the defect of "idtirab", as we explained in the previous note.
