It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that one of the pure wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ritual bath (ghusl) for janabah (major ritual impurity), and then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution or the ritual bath with her (left-over) water.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is hasan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Simak bin Harb is saduq, but his narrations from 'Ikrimah sometimes show inconsistency (idtirab).
Important point: Abu al-Muwajjih refers to Muhammad bin 'Amr al-Fazari, 'Abdan to 'Abd Allah bin 'Uthman al-Marwazi, 'Abd Allah to Ibn al-Mubarak, Qabisah to Ibn 'Uqbah, and Sufyan to Sufyan al-Thawri.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (4/2102), al-Nasa'i in "al-Mujtaba" (325) and Ibn Hibban (1242) narrated it via the route of Ibn al-Mubarak.
Details of the narration: These narrations contain this addition: "I mentioned that to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and he said: Nothing makes water impure".
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (4/2101, 2566, 5/28051) and Ibn Majah (371) narrated it via various routes from Sufyan al-Thawri, but some of them did not transmit the above-mentioned addition.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (5/3120), Abu Dawud (68), Ibn Majah (370), al-Tirmidhi (65) and Ibn Hibban (1248, 1261, 1269) narrated it via two routes from Simak, with the addition.
Grading: Imam al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan sahih".
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Imam Muslim (323) narrated through Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to bathe with the water left over by Maymunah.
Details of the narration: In al-Bukhari it says that the two of them used to bathe from one and the same vessel.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) in al-Bukhari (250) and Muslim (321).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The sentence "Nothing makes water impure" is supported by the hadith of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) about the well of Buda'ah, found in Musnad Ahmad (17/11119) and other books; this hadith is sahih through the combination of all its routes.
Note / Clarification: The phrase "min fadliha" (from the water left over by her) means the water remaining in the vessel after her bath, into which the woman had put her hand (while taking water).
