Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever commits fornication or drinks wine, Allah pulls (the light of) faith out of him just as a person takes a shirt off over his head."
Imam Muslim used Abd al-Rahman bin Hujayrah and Abdullah bin al-Walid as evidence, and both of them are Syrian narrators.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
15/ 554 - 555. Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) The printed edition has "Abu Bakr" (with the addition of "Abu"), which is an error; his kunyah is "Abu Ahmad". For details see "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" (15/ 554-555).
Grading: (4) Its chain is "da'if" because of the weakness of Abd Allah bin al-Walid (al-Tujibi al-Misri). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author's statement that he is "Shami" (Syrian) is a mistake on his part (as also regarding Abd al-Rahman bin Hujayrah), because both are Egyptian. His second mistake is claiming that Imam Muslim used Abd Allah bin al-Walid as proof, whereas Muslim recorded nothing from him. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a shahid (supporting report) in the marfu' hadith of Mubarak bin Hassan, from Ata', from Abu Hurayrah, which says: "Faith is taken off him just as his shirt is taken off; when he returns to faith, it returns to him" (al-Bazzar: 9287). But Mubarak bin Hassan is "da'if, munkar al-hadith". "Sirbal" means a shirt.
