Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 509

أخبرَناه أبو بكر بن إسحاق الفقيه، حدثنا أبو المثنَّى ومحمد بن أيوب وأحمد بن عمر بن حفص قالوا: حدثنا عَمْرو بن مرزوق، أخبرنا شُعْبة، عن أيوب، عن أبي قِلَابة، عن أبي ثَعْلبة الخُشَني: أنه سأل النبيَّ ﷺ فقال: إنا بأرضٍ عامَّتُه أهلُ كتاب، فكيف نَصنَعُ بآنيَتِهم؟ فقال: "دَعُوا ما وجدتُم منها بُدًّا، فإذا لم تجِدُوا منها بُدًّا فاغسِلُوها بالماء ثم اطبُخوا" (1). وهكذا رواه خالد الحذَّاء عن أبي قِلابة:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "We are in a land whose population is mostly People of the Book, so what should we do with their vessels?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave them as long as some other means is available to you, but if you find no other way, wash them with water and then cook in them."

(1) حديث صحيح كسابقه. أبو المثنى: هو معاذ بن المثنى بن معاذ العنبري.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, like the previous one.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu al-Muthanna refers to Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna bin Mu'adh al-'Anbari.
وأخرجه أحمد 29/ (17731) عن محمد بن جعفر، والترمذي (1560) و (1796) من طريق سَلْم بن قتيبة، كلاهما عن شعبة، بهذا الإسناد - ولفظه في حديث سَلْم: "سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن قدور المجوس"، وهو شاذٌّ.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (17731) and Imam al-Tirmidhi (1560, 1796) narrated it through the chain of Muhammad bin Ja'far and Salm bin Qutaybah, from Shu'bah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narration of Salm bin Qutaybah mentions a question about "the cooking pots of the Magians", which is "shadh" (compared with the other narrations).
