It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, we live in a land of the People of the Book; they drink wine and eat the flesh of swine. What is your view about their vessels and cooking pots?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Leave them as long as you can find an alternative to them, but if you find no other way, wash them with water," or he said: "Sprinkle water on them. Then cook in them and eat." Hammad said: I think he (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "And drink."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Manuscript (B) has the words "from Abu Qilabah from Abu Tha'labah".
Grading: This hadith is sahih and all its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy). Technical note / Defect ('illah): According to the majority of hadith scholars, Abu Qilabah ('Abd Allah bin Zayd al-Jarmi) did not hear from Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) (although the author (al-Hakim) later affirms that he did). However, this narration is reported from Abu Qilabah through other routes via "Abu Asma' al-Rahabi", who is thiqah, so the objection of a break is removed. Identification of narrators: Abu al-Rabi' refers to Sulayman bin Dawud al-Zahrani, and Ayyub refers to Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani. Reference / Source: Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi recorded it in his "Musnad" (1107), and through him Imam al-Bayhaqi in "Ma'rifat al-Sunan wa al-Athar" (566), with the chain of Hammad bin Zayd. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad 29/ (17737) recorded it through Ma'mar from Ayyub. Reference / Source: A narration of similar meaning was reported from Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani by Makhul al-Shami (Ahmad (17733), al-Tirmidhi (1464)), Abu Idris al-Khawlani (Ahmad (17752), al-Bukhari (5478), (5488) and (5496), Muslim (1930), Ibn Majah (3207), al-Tirmidhi (1464) and (1560 m), Ibn Hibban (5879)), Muslim bin Mishkam (Abu Dawud (3839)) and 'Urwah bin Ruwaym (Ibn Majah (2831)).
