Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 467

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was asked about water that is in open barren land and to which predators come, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When water is equal to the quantity of two large jars (qullatayn), it does not become impure."
This hadith was also narrated through Muhammad bin Ishaq by senior imams such as Sufyan al-Thawri, Za'idah, Hammad bin Salamah and Ibn al-Mubarak, which is further proof of its authenticity.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is of the grade "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam Muhammad bin Ishaq explicitly stated that he heard it directly (tahdith) in Imam al-Daraqutni's "al-Sunan" (17), which removes the concern of his tadlis.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 8/ (4803) and Ibn Majah (517) through Yazid bin Harun, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Imam Ahmad 8/ (4605) and 9/ (4961) and Imam al-Tirmidhi (67) through 'Abdah bin Sulayman, from Muhammad bin Ishaq, with the same chain.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): "'Abd Allah" here refers to Ibn al-Mubarak; his narration is in Ibn Majah (517 m) and in Imam al-Tabari's "Tahdhib al-Athar" (Musnad Ibn 'Abbas) 2/ 732, through Muhammad bin Ishaq from Muhammad bin Ja'far bin al-Zubayr from 'Ubayd Allah (in the diminutive form) bin 'Abd Allah bin 'Umar. We did not find any narration of his in which "'Abd Allah" (in the non-diminutive form) is mentioned.
