حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، أخبرنا محمد بن عبد الله بن عبد الحَكَم، أخبرنا ابن وَهْب، أخبرني مالك بن خَيْر الزَّبَادي، عن أبي قَبِيل، عن عُبادةَ بن الصامت، أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ قال: "ليس منّا مَن لم يُجِلَّ كبيرنا، ويَرحَمْ صغيرَنا، ويَعرِفْ لعالِمِنا" (1). مالك بن خيرٍ الزَّبَادي مِصريٌّ ثقة، وأبو قَبِيل تابعيٌّ كبير.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is not of us who does not honour our elders, show mercy to our young, and recognise the right of our scholar."
Malik bin Khayr al-Ziyadi is a trustworthy Egyptian narrator, and Abu Qabil is a senior Tabi'i.

(1) صحيح لغيره دون قوله: "ويعرف لعالمنا"، وهذا إسناد حسن لولا انقطاعه، فإنَّ أبا قبيل - وهو حيي بن هانئ بن ناضر المعافري - لم يسمع من عبادة.
Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi" except for the words "wa ya'rif li-'alimina" (and recognizes the right of our scholar).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Had there been no break (inqita') in this chain, it would be "hasan", because it is not established that Abu Qabil (Huyayy bin Hani' bin Nadir al-Ma'afiri) heard from 'Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him).
وأخرجه أحمد 37/ (22755) عن هارون بن معروف عن عبد الله بن وهب، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in 37/ (22755) through the route of Harun bin Ma'ruf, from 'Abd Allah bin Wahb, with this same chain.
ويشهد له دون قوله: و"يعرف لعالمنا" غيرُ ما حديث، منها حديث عبد الله بن عمرو السالف عند المصنف برقم (210)، وانظر تمامها عند حديثه في "مسند أحمد" 11/ (6733).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Apart from the words "wa ya'rif li-'alimina", this hadith has several supporting reports, including the hadith of 'Abd Allah bin 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), which has already appeared with the author (al-Hakim) at number (210).
Note / Clarification: Full details can be seen under his narration in "Musnad Ahmad" 11/ (6733).
