أخبرنا أبو حامد أحمد بن محمد بن يحيى الخطيب بمَرْو، حدثنا إبراهيم بن هلال البُوزَنْجِرْدي، حدثنا علي بن الحسن بن شَقِيق، حدثنا الحسين بن واقد، عن عبد الله بن بُرَيدة، عن أبيه قال: كنَّا إذا قَعَدْنا عند رسول الله ﷺ لم نَرفَعْ رؤوسنا إليه، إعظامًا له (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين (3)، ولا أحفَظُ له علَّةً، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: Whenever we sat in the gathering of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we would not raise our heads towards him, out of reverence and respect for him (peace and blessings be upon him).
This hadith is sahih on the condition of the two Shaykhs; I do not know of any hidden defect ('illah) in it, but they did not record it.

(2) إسناده حسن إن شاء الله من أجل إبراهيم بن هلال، فقد روى عنه جمع من الثقات عند المصنف وغيره، ولم يؤثر فيه جرح أو تعديل، وترجمه السمعاني في "الأنساب" وذكر وفاته سنة تسع وثمانين ومئتين ولم ينفرد بما يُنكَر.
Grading: If Allah wills, its chain is "hasan", on account of the narrator Ibrahim bin Hilal.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group of thiqah narrators narrated from Ibrahim bin Hilal with the author (al-Hakim) and other imams, and no criticism (jarh) or praise (ta'dil) of him is reported. Al-Sam'ani gave his biography in "al-Ansab" and recorded his death as 289 AH; moreover, he did not narrate anything alone that is "munkar" (objectionable).
وأخرجه البيهقي في "المدخل إلى السنن الكبرى" (658) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Madkhal ila al-Sunan al-Kubra" (658) from Abu 'Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
ويشهد له حديث المسور بن مخرمة الطويل في صلح الحديبية عند البخاري (2731)، ففيه قال عروة بن مسعود في وصف النبي ﷺ وأصحابه وما يُحِدُّون إليه النظر تعظيمًا له.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the long hadith of al-Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyah in Sahih al-Bukhari (2731), in which 'Urwah bin Mas'ud described the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions and how they would not stare at him, out of reverence for him.
(3) كذا قال هنا، وقد سلف عند الحديث (11) تنصيصه أنَّ الحسين بن واقد احتجَّ به مسلم فقط، وهو الصواب.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author said this here, whereas under hadith number (11) he himself stated explicitly that al-Husayn bin Waqid is a narrator whom only Imam Muslim used as proof (not al-Bukhari), and that is what is correct.
