Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): (1) In the manuscripts it occurs with the letter "ra'", in which case it would be a repetition; but the correct reading is with "dal", from "bada'a" (to begin). Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar stated explicitly that it is with "dal" in "al-Fath" (19/ 463), and al-Khattabi said in "Sha'n al-Du'a'": Its meaning is that of "al-Mubdi'"; one says "bada'a" and "abda'a" with one meaning; He is the One who began things, originating them without any prior model.

Grading: (2) Its chain is "da'if" (weak) because of the weakness of Abd al-'Aziz bin Husayn; al-'Uqayli cited this hadith of his in his book "al-Du'afa'" (943). Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": They declared him weak.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Asma' wa al-Sifat" (10) from al-Hakim with this same chain, and declared it weak because of Abd al-'Aziz.
Reference / Source: Ibn al-A'rabi in his "Mu'jam" (1735) — and from him al-Khattabi in "Sha'n al-Du'a'" (p. 99) — and al-Bayhaqi in "al-I'tiqad" (p. 51) narrated it through two routes from Khalid bin Makhlad. They added "al-Muhit" among the names, between "al-Hafiz" and "al-Kabir". Al-Khattabi also declared it weak because of Abd al-'Aziz.

Reference / Source: The hadith of Ayyub from Ibn Sirin is in Ahmad (13/ 7623) and Muslim (2677), and the hadith of Hisham (Ibn Hassan) from Ibn Sirin is in Ahmad (16/ 10481) and al-Tirmidhi (3506).
