حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن غالب، حدثنا عفّان وأبو سلمة، قالا: حدثنا حمّاد بن سَلَمة، عن حبيبِ بن الشَّهيد ويونس بن عُبيد وحُميد، عن الحسن، عن النبي ﷺ. وعليِّ بن زيد، عن يوسف بن مِهْران، عن ابن عبّاس، عن النبي ﷺ قال: "ما مِن آدميٍّ إلّا وقد أخطأَ أو هَمَّ بخَطيئةٍ أو عَمِلَها، إلّا أن يكونَ يحيى بنُ زكريا، لم يَهُمَّ بخطيئةٍ ولم يَعْمَلْها" (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no human being except that he has made some mistake, or intended a sin, or committed it, except Yahya bin Zakariyya (peace be upon them both); he neither intended any sin nor committed any sin."

(1) حسن لغيره، وطريق الحسن - وهو البصري - رجاله ثقات، لكنه مرسل، وأما طريق علي ابن زيد - وهو ابن جُدعان - فضعيف لضعفه، لكن له ما يشهد له إن شاء الله. وقد جوّد إسنادَه الذهبي في "تلخيصه"، فلعله بمجموع إسنادَيه.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan li-ghayrihi" (i.e. it reaches the level of hasan on the strength of other supporting evidence).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrators of the route of al-Hasan al-Basri are thiqah, but it is "mursal," while the route of 'Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an is weak because of his own weakness; however, if Allah wills, it has a shahid (supporting report). Al-Dhahabi called its chain "good (jayyid)" in "al-Talkhis," probably on the basis of its two chains taken together.
وأخرجه أحمد 4/ (2294) و (2689) و (2736) من طرق عن حمّاد بن سلمة، عن علي بن زيد بن جُدعان، به.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad 4/(2294), (2689) and (2736) via various routes from Hammad bin Salamah, from 'Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an, with this chain.
وأما طريق الحسن البصري المرسلة فأخرجها عبد الرزاق في "تفسيره" 2/ 5، ولفظ روايته: "ما أذنَبَ يحيى بن زكريا ذنبًا ولا همَّ بامرأة".
Reference / Source: The mursal narration of al-Hasan al-Basri was recorded by 'Abd al-Razzaq in his "Tafsir" 2/5, and its wording is: "Yahya bin Zakariyya never committed a sin, nor did he ever have designs on a woman."
ويشهد له حديث عمرو بن العاص السالف برقم (3451)، والآتي برقم (7810)، وقد اختُلف في وصله وإرساله ورفعه ووقفه كما تقدم بيانه عند (3451)، وانظر تمام شواهده هناك.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It is supported by the hadith of 'Amr bin al-'As which has passed under no. (3451) and will come under no. (7810).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is disagreement over whether that narration is muttasil or mursal, marfu' or mawquf, as explained in detail under no. (3451); see all of its supporting reports there.
