It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, every Prophet has friends (and patrons) among the Prophets, and indeed my friend and my intimate friend is my forefather Ibrahim (peace be upon him)." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Indeed, the people closest to Ibrahim are those who followed him" [Surah Al Imran: 68].

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih, as we explained at number (3189). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Nu'aym is "al-Fadl bin Dukayn", Sufyan is "Ibn Sa'id bin Masruq al-Thawri", Abu al-Duha is "Muslim bin Subayh", and Masruq is "Ibn al-Ajda'". Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi narrated it after (2995) from Mahmud bin Ghaylan, from Abu Nu'aym, from Sufyan, from his father, from Abu al-Duha, from Ibn Mas'ud. He did not mention "Masruq" in its chain, but we explained at number (3189) that the mention of Masruq is established in the chain in the narration of a group of hafiz scholars from Sufyan, and in the narration of Abu al-Ahwas from Sa'id bin Masruq, Sufyan's father. And Allah knows best. Note / Clarification: It will come next via Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi, from Sufyan al-Thawri, with Masruq mentioned in its chain.
