It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The people (on the Day of Resurrection, seeking intercession) will say: 'O Ibrahim, you are the Intimate Friend of the Most Merciful; the people of the heavens and the people of the earth have heard of your intimate friendship (close friendship with Allah).'"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Salam is "al-Naysaburi", Ishaq bin Ibrahim is "Ibn Rahawayh", Jarir is "Ibn 'Abd al-Hamid", and Abu Zur'ah is "Ibn 'Amr bin Jarir al-Bajali". Reference / Source: Muslim (194) and Ibn Hibban (6465) narrated it via Abu Khaythamah Zuhayr bin Harb, from Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid, with this same chain, as part of the long hadith of intercession. Reference / Source: Ahmad (15/9623), al-Bukhari (4712), Muslim (194), al-Tirmidhi (2434) and al-Nasa'i (11222) narrated it via Abu Hayyan Yahya bin Sa'id bin Hayyan, from Abu Zur'ah, as part of the hadith of intercession, but with the wording: "O Ibrahim, you are the Prophet of Allah and His Khalil (intimate friend) from among the people of the earth." It does not contain the words: "The people of the heavens and the people of the earth have heard of your intimate friendship (khullah)." Note / Clarification: "Al-khullah": the friendship and love that penetrates the heart and settles within it, in its innermost part.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Apparently the author (al-Hakim) meant by this the narration of Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid which contains the addition: "The people of the heavens and the earth have heard of your intimate friendship." That is because he knew that the hadith of Abu Hurayrah on intercession exists in their collections (since he pointed this out after hadith 4049). Nevertheless, his statement here cannot be accepted, because Muslim also recorded it from the narration of Jarir bin 'Abd al-Hamid, although he did not cite its wording in full; but all who recorded the hadith via Jarir made it explicit, such as Ishaq bin Rahawayh in his "Musnad" (184), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Ahwal" (154), Ibn Hibban (6465) and others.
