Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4057

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he recited this verse, "And do not display yourselves as in the display of the former Jahiliyyah," and said: "Between Nuh and Idris (peace be upon them both) there was a period of a thousand years. There were two clans among the children of Adam (peace be upon him); one of them lived in the plains (lowlands) and the other lived in the mountains. The mountain men were handsome and their women were plain, while the women of the plains were beautiful and their men were plain. Iblis came to a man from the people of the plains in the form of a shepherd boy, and he produced a (flute) sound the like of which people had never heard before. So they made (that day) a festival at which they would gather once a year. A man from the mountain people came upon them while they were celebrating that very festival. He saw their women and their beauty, so he went to his companions and told them about it. So they moved to them (the women) and settled among them, and thus indecency spread among them. And this is the meaning of the saying of Allah Almighty: 'And do not display yourselves as in the display of the former Jahiliyyah.'" [Surah al-Ahzab: 33]
